Info
Alpine Baldy is a partnership between Evergreen, the US Forest Service, the Town of Skykomish and King County Parks. Phase 1 officially opened on July 20th, 2019. It's a 7 mile out and back on a combination of road-to-trail conversion, new forested singletrack and alpine meadow singletrack. Amazing views!
Phase 2 will add additional trail to turn this into a loop ride. Still in the planning phase.
Ride Reports
Snow at top!
Some friends did Alpne Baldy on Monday and reported no snow at the top, so I decided to give it a shot on Friday. Big change! After all the rain, the streams were very heavy with at least one requiring walking the bike through. During the last mile or so the ground snow started...
Fall Equinox on Alpine Baldy
This was my first time on this trail and it won't be the last. Started the ride at 11 AM after a short rain shower. Weather was supposed to improve and it did. A few cars at the trail head but it turns out they were all going for the Beckler's Peak hike. I saw no riders on Alpine Baldy the...
Scenic and wildflowers
Great time to ride - the 6.2 mile logging road from US2 to the trailhead is annoying but definitely worth it.
The wildflowers are out like fireworks. The bench at the west end of the alpine meadow is a great place for a picnic and didn't even have to use Deet. &nb...
Welcome through my door
Left the trailhead at 7am in a misty rain and 1/4 mile visibility. There wasn't going to be any awesome views today, just a wet ride. The dirt was well drained. The last report said the avalanche debris field was ridable but there must have been another tree fall there because the trail was block...
Alpine Baldy all clear and in great shape
The avalanche debris field is rideable, and there's just one tree down on the road to trail part. Rode across one small patch of snow near the top. The Alpine Traverse was spectacular as usual. The only warning is be wary of riding on Sunday because getting back to the Seattle a...
Snow at 4.5 miles in
Avalanche debris at 1.5 miles. There's a tunnel under the ice, requiring care when crossing. Trail was snow covered at 4.5 miles in, which is where we turned around.
Snowline at 3800' except for the Avalanche and Debris
Started at the trailhead just around 5:30am and in a light rain and in my O2 Rainwear. There are two big trees for the chainsaws at 3100' and 3700'. There was also an avalanche debri pile over one of the drainages that you will n...
Snow, but not a problem, YET.
Started just after 6am at the trailhead during the break between the convergence zone downpour last night and the next wave this afternoon. Started under lights and watched the sunrise through the trees and high clouds. Needed to cut two 6" alders from the double track (more look like they are fa...
Access Denied!
We tried to ride it, but the access road 6066 was closed for re-construction for 2 weeks. Explored local FS roads instead.
Running great
Trail is running great, top to bottom. Wildflowers galore in the meadows. The trees mentioned in the previous report have been cleared, so you can pin it all the way from the meadows to the bottom. Hero dirt in the singletrack. Signs posted in the parking lot said the road would be closed 7/8-12,...
Light Rain and 100 yd Visibility
It was a damp morning and the light rain gear was the better option. We left the Jennifer Dunn Trailhead and began the climb. There are two trees needing the big saws. One, is a half mile up the double track climb, and the other, is half way up the climbing trail from the base camp to the meadow....
A real gem, and improving!
No signage yet at the parking lot, which is shared with the Jennifer Dunn trail (posted No Bikes). The first mile or so is under constructio, diligently being converted/improved from abandoned forrest road to singlettack, but is very ridable, mostly level with a few easy creek crossings. Af...
Great Ride
Wonderful to see road turning into single track! No bugs, lots of smoke.
Beautiful meadow and a little smoke
I parked at the trailhead around 6:30 in the morning and started up the road to discover the current progress of the summit meadow traverse. The views were a little hazy, but take away the smoke, and the views are beautiful! The upper half of the road is getting contoured for more fun on the dece...
Alpine Baldy phase one out and back
The trail is snow free and very dry. The 5 mile road to trail conversion is very rough but rideable except for a couple of downed trees. Three of the stream crossings are allready partially washed out, though still ridable. Use caution or you will fall into deep rocky pits. ...
Felt like a wet slug afterwards
Until Evergreen or DNR finish with the trails the only ride really available is the road in blue on the overview map. I turned off hwy 2 on to the forest service road and parked about a 1/2 mile in under the power lines. That starts your ride at about 1200 ft. I put the rain gear on and went for t...
