My Fall will be a busy time so I wanted to get one Meadow traverse on Alpine Baldy in 2025 before the snow eliminates this trail until Spring. I parked the truck just above the target range barrow pit, under the powerlines, and pulled the bike off the truck. I am really starting to do this more because I love the road descent (got up to 36 mph) along with the trail descent. The road is more fun on a bike than inside a car. The times I ride here, there is usually no one else around, so the vehicle traffic worries are minimal, but still be careful! The road is really well graded now and only has a couple spots for low-clearance cars to manuever strategically. The climb was long but worth it. The Fall colors are coming out now and the dry, cooler, weather made the trip comfortable. Saplings are still a little annoying after you climb past the meadow drainage. The descent at speed, and leaning into some of the overgrown corners will get you if you're not prepared. At the summit, I changed into my light raingear and heavy gloves to avoid being whipped too bad by the encroaching saplings. There is one 12-15" tree across the trail about 100 yards below the entry onto the meadow. The picture in the Trailforks Ride Log will show location and size. The ride log is located here and has a neat 3D view option to watch the topography during the ride. If you have never been up to the meadow at 5000', here is a video of today's entry and traverse. A video of the lengthy descent is here but can be jumped through as you wish (18 minutes).
