I’ve been away for two weeks at my daughter’s college graduation in Alabama, and then a family ‘decompression’ from the festivities in Myrtle Beach, SC afterwards. Now that I’m back from the flat lands, I went to Darrington early this morning to get a ride in and satisfy my mtb withdrawal symptoms. There was a light rain at times and the trails had very greasy roots but otherwise traction was good! I parked at the upper lot and climbed to do Hoot Owl twice. There is a 15” tree across the trail at “head level” a hundred feet before the tight 90 degree left turn. Smaller folks can duck under but it should be removed. Later in the morning, it got a little colder and a rain snow mix began up at the summit and a steady rain elsewhere. To end the ride, I drove back down to the Skills Park and rode the black and blues before going into town and getting my chilli dog and beer at the Red Top. It got pretty dirty today in the wet.
The Trailforks Ride Log is here for the Hoot Owl ride. There is some erosion and drainage damage to the road in two spots heading to the upper lot and kiosk. Those image/locations are in the Hoot Owl ride log too.
