All kinds of weather

25 | Sep | '15

Short story:

Trail is in good shape except for the washout described in other reports.  Washout isn't bad - about 100 feet total and you will have to carry your bike over one log then under another and climb up a steep bank(see photo).  Dirt road in is a washboard but easy for all vehicles. You can drive your car to within 100 yards of the old parking lot. The 3 O'clock Ridge approach trail is really getting harder and harder to find.  The sign is gone, it's on a downhill section, and it immediately drops into the woods.

Longer story:

This ride takes some commitment because of the drive time (including the 10 miles of washboard dirt road) and the feeling of really being "out there" - no cell coverage at all.  We spent lots of time putting on and taking off layers.  We had all weather from sunny to a little rain.  It was really pretty cold unless we were grunting uphill.

Gold Creek trail is miles and miles of traversing with steep drop offs - great stuff really.  Mostly smooth, no stutter bumps - it's just not ridden too much.  We saw no other riders, no bike rack on any of the cars etc.  I really think we were the only bikers out there Saturday.  We did see a few hikers near the upper end of the Dungeness trail and again when we were getting back to the car. Mushrooms are just starting to blast out of the ground.
