It has been a month since my last ride in Darrington. So I ventured back out to my happy place to get up to the summit and descend Hoot Owl and Skyline before getting lunch and heading home for errands.
Even with the recent rain, soils were dry and gravel was in the trails where loam wasn’t present. Hoot Owl was in really great shape since the loam and dry roots held the tires well. I achieved my personal best today at a little over three minutes. Skyline was good also but there were quite a few more gravelly sections. I went too wide on one turn and the front tire slid out on me and down I went, but no scratches. The ride was still great and weather has been good. The Trailforks activity log for this ride is here.
Now for some British Columbia news….
First, if you haven’t been paying attention to bike races coming to the PNW, the Red Bull Hardline will be held at Cypress Mountain, north of Vancouver, on October 17th with competitors spending the preceeding days getting ready. I plan to be up there to watch. Maybe I’ll see you there.
Other stuff that happened up in BC was that I took the RV up to Cultus Lake, South of Chilliwack and spent a week up there. Right next to that lake, to the northwest, is Vedder Mountain. It is a well developed trail system with a Squamish feel to it. I did three separate rides on the Mountain during the week and those Trailforks ride logs are linked here:

If you are in the Chilliwack area, Vedder Mountain trails will give you plenty to challenge your skills.
