In today’s ride, my goal was to get down Lower Showcase Showdown without dabbing, or walking, any one of the 4 spots that always seem to psych me out pretty easily.
Going up for the first time, the upper, north, end of Pathfinder was very overgrown and needed a lot of brushwork. I used my folding saw as a machete to get through the stickers, saplings and leafy plants so hike a bike isn’t necessary anymore but more work would be recommended. The same goes for the lower, flowy traverse of the Showcase trail. It is hard to see the trail in spots.
I did a first descent run to stop, and study, the four spots in way more detail and find lines that I could see being successful for me. Then I went back up, doing a little more brush work and then made my run. It was very fulfilling to do it on my first attempt after the ‘study’ run. The Trailforks Ride Log and pictures are here. The helmet GoPro is here if interested.
