Sandy and Frustrating, Wait Until Fall

While passing through Leavenworth today I wanted to try the Icicle Ridge loop of the Forth of July climb and the Icicle Ridge descent. So I parked at the Icicle trailhead and headed up the road the 8 miles to climb Fourth of July. I got up about a third of the way and the sand and rockiness started becoming too frustrating to ride so I decided to turn around and descend down what I earned the hard way ( at least it was with the Levo) but even the Levo was having troubles. The descent was brushy on the trail but fun tech with some tight switchbacks. On the road back, it was very refreshing going up to 35 mph on some steep spots and getting the wind chill when it was 90 in the calm. Hikers also told me doing an ‘out and back’ on the Icicle itself would’ve been very sandy also so maybe just wait till the rains come when the sand can consolidate.

The Trailforks ride log is here.
