Olney Falls to Culmback Dam

29 | Dec | '20

Been in Florida for a family theme park tour and a trip to the Space Coast. I missed the delayed SpaceX launch so I needed to make up for that by getting back into some real topography. Also, my unofficial version of a COVID test, is a lot of miles or a lot of vertical, or both. I started with the gravel bike on the DNR road to Olney Falls and then continued on up to, and past, Wallace Lake and then on a road going North that joins up to Sultan Basin Road. This last logging road had a decomissioned road pile to walk around and the ride continued. I took Sultan Basin Road up to Olney Pass, and then to the Gateway parking lot of the Spada Lake Infrastructure. After a snack, I crossed the dam to the recreation sites on the North side of the dam and then back to the car via Sultan Basin Road and Kellogg Lake Road. The descents on this route were great and relaxing but the amount of vertical is strenuous. Bring a little extra nutrition. The GPS track and pictures are here.

Had a nice New Year's ride out north of Granite Falls on double track. A real nice downhill if all you want is some speed with no flow. That ride is here.
