Hello amazing moutain biking community,
I write this account with a heavy heart as I had an experience that I want to warn people about. I was riding today with my 13 yr old son and his 13 yr old friend for the first time at Port Gamble. Not fully knowing where we were going, we found our way onto a a pretty fresh and new trail, after completing Fort Night, in an attempt to get back up to the hub. No signs saying closed, no red tape crossing it, in fact, no tape around anywhere. Within a few minutes of hike a bike up this trail we were berated from 60meters away up above us by a man whose first words were "Heh moth__fu__er, you should know better than to illegally poach turns on new run." He contiued to yell down profanities at us further chastizing us for finding ourselves on this trail. I was in shock a little at first because I thought he might be talking to someone else because there was no way he could be talking to us like that since we hadn't done anything. It then became obvious that he was. My son and his friend were silent while I explained why we were there. It seemed not to matter so we turned around and went back the way we came which ended up working out better anyway, which was the silver lining.
Anyway, this is not something we need in this amazing communnity, with father's and mothers riding around with very young budding riders trying to figure things out, as we saw many times today. We could have been lost, my son and his friend could have been 6 or one of us could have been injured. Instead of helping he became the self imposed ruler of a communal facility that is owned and loved by us all. If anyone else has an experience like this from this unhappy and angry man, please report it so that we can get this person removed.
Here is a rough decription of this man for future reference to the best of my ability since the sighting was through dense trees and the shade of the canopy. He was roughly 6 feet tall. Some type of facial hair. I think he was weating a blue plaid shirt and rubber boots.
To this man, if you read this, please go get help, get a hug from someone and leave this community. You don't belong here. Furthmore, if I have an experience like that from you again, that threatens the safety of my son, or anyone for that matter at the park, you and I will not only have a problem to solve, but I will happily get the police involved. Please know that I will be there many more times in the future.
Sorry to bring everyone down on this amazing sunny day but I just wanted make sure no-one elses day was affected by this reprobait.
