Basalt Peak

Good temps and a little rain the night before made for nice conditions on the ride. I took the gravel road for the first two miles and turned onto rock creek trail. It's pretty steep at first but quickly mellows. This section was mostly clear with some sections of soft dirt but not too bad. Turned onto rock creek tie trail and the pain begins. A ton of climbing on this section with some unrideable switchbacks and a few tree blow downs. The last push to the peak is tough but since you're almost to the top it didn't seem to bad. Lots of hike a bike on this last part. Downhill back down to Finner Creek Campground on the Basalt Trail was a bit rutted at the top and soft but once into the trees it was great. Probably at least 10 trees across the trail on the way down. Overall a good, rugged, backcountry ride with amazing views, tough climbs and a fun descent to end it. 15 miles took almost 3 hours with lots of stopping but a good pace when riding.
