BDOS: Crooshal/Supercharger Refresh

Location: Maple Valley, WA
Chapter: Cascades to Sound
New Mileage: N/A miles
Status: In Progress
Projected Completion: Spring 2024

Update August 2023

In partnership with King County Parks, EMBA has started a rebuild and refresh to the Crooshal and Supercharger trails at Black Diamond Open Space. These long time and heavily ridden trails were in need of a refresh and reroute. Having a cross country climb cross a high speed trail led to safety concerns. Both trails will be rerouted and seperated.

Crooshal: Will be extended by 200 feet. A new starting point at the entrance from the connector trail between Crooshal/Supercharger and Fresh Squeezed.

Supercharger: Will be sperated into two different trails. The main larger loop that used to cross over Crooshal got a complete refresh last fall, all turns on the down section of the trail were rebuilt and refreshed. Rock armoring was added over some large exposed unrideable roots on both the up and down part of the trail.

Superpump: The upper part of Supercharger will now be turned into it's own new loop. A shorter pump track type loop with turns and rollers will be added to keep your speed and allow for multiple repeatable laps.

As these chaneges are being done, it will mean some very large reroutes and new starting points. Once these changes have been implemented, signage will be be put up to educate and alert all riders of new routes to stop riders from possibly going backwards on a newly rerouted trail.

So far we have received help and volunteer efforts from the Tahoma Mountain Bike TeamTukwila Trek Bike Shop, and The Breakfast Club. All have helped in organizing/sponsoring work parties and physically putting shovels in the ground. We can't thank them enough for helping kick this project off last spring. King County parks has also been a huge help in this project, they ordered and delivered all the large rockery used for rock armoring, helped brush cut the trails prior to work parties and also showed up to a few work parties and dig with the Tahoma Mountain Bike Club!

In October of 2023 we will continue the efforts to get this project done. Keep an eye out for work parties and how you can help. Projects like these at BDOS will help us keep this momentum going towards new and bigger projects.
