Coed Intermediate* Ride - Raging River Mt. Rainier Lookout!

10/12/2019,  9:00 am -  2:00 pm

This ride is challenging, but I think is doable for people in good shape. We'll climb for about an hour with breaks to the RT1 Checkpoint (start of Poppin' Tops Upper) and continue to climb for about another hour or so (could be an hour and a half with breaks) on Raging Ridge to a clearing where you can see Mt. Rainer on clear days. We'll take a break here and eat here. Then we'll descend. If you're not sure this ride is a good fit for you, feel free to call me.

NOTE: The trails are all blue or green on this ride with the exception of Poppin' Tops Upper, which is black. I would categorize Poppin' Tops Upper as dark blue, but that's only my opinion. There is one steep turn. That's why the ride is labeled "Intermediate*" (asterisk was intentional). For comparison, I don't find the decent any more challenging than Preston or Joy Ride on Tiger Mountain. Also note that the end time of 2 PM is an estimate, not actual time.

  • Grunt rating: High. Plan to climb for 60+ minutes and then another 60-90 minutes with breaks.

Bike Requirements
You can ride this trail with any hard tail or full suspension mountain bike in good working order. However, if you have a 6 inch full suspension mountain bike, bring it! Please make sure your bike is in good working order. If unsure, take your bike to a bike mechanic before the ride. Also, bring an extra tube that fits your bike, so you can repair a flat tire.

Directions & Meeting Place
Take I-90 to Exit 27. Turn on to Winery Road and either park here or continue to the main parking lot (1/4 mile from I-90, Discover Pass needed). Ride the 50 feet of trail by the bathroom, cross the road and find the well marked mountain bike trail entrance. Let's meet near the bathrooms in the parking lot.

Evergreen has a no-drop policy and we ride together as a group (this means that we all agree to start and finish with the group). We will regroup often and adjust the pace based on riders' preference. Bring food, appropriate clothing for the weather, and plenty of water.
