Trail School - Methow Chapter

The Methow Chapter is excited to invite you to Trail School! 

If you have always wanted to get involved in trail work or wanted to learn the basics of trail work or are a seasoned vet looking to learn new techniques, this class is for you. The class and field work will be taught and supervised by members of Evergreen's professional trail staff. This is a great opportunity to learn from the pros!

We especially love to teach new people who have never done trail work before, so don't hesitate to sign up and we will show you the ropes!

Class Curriculum

• Basic stewardship (Classroom)

  • Stewardship, Conservation, Sustainability

• Trail construction and soil types (Classroom)

  • Basic trail construction concepts to keep in mind when performing maintenance work.

• Drainage maintenance (Classroom)

  • Drain types, best practices.

• Brushing and clearing (Classroom)

  • Tools, best practices

• Basic tool and work safety (Field)

  • Tool types, appropriate usage and body mechanics

• Trail Maintenance Work (Field)

  • A site is chosen that covers most of the concepts reviewed in the classroom portion

Location:

Classroom: Winthrop Library Community room at this location.  If heading Northwest from Twisp direction, turn left onto Twin Lakes Rd. in 1/4 mile you will see the library on your left. 

Field portion: Chickadee trailhead, located here. From the library, turn left onto Twin Lakes Rd and follow for 3 miles. Take a slight right onto Patterson Lk Rd and follow for ~5 miles. Turn left onto Thompson Rd. The trailhead will be on your left. 

Schedule (please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can begin on time):

• 9am - sign in, introductions, plan for the day

• 9:30am - Begin classroom slideshow presentation

• 10:30 tool talk

• 11:00 - Lunch

• 11:30 - 12:00 - Meet at trailhead talk safety and work plan

• 12:30pm  - Hike to worksite and begin work

• 3:30pm - Gather up tools and hike out

• 4pm - End
