February Trail Highlight: Green Mountain

If the 60-degree winter weather in Puget Sound has caused your ski soul to sulk, grab your bike, Clif Bars, (and sunscreen!?), and check out this month’s Trail Highlight: Green Mountain.

Located on DNR land in Kitsap County, Green Mountain offers steady climbs, fast descents, and great skyline views of Bremerton, Seattle—and Mt. Rainier and Adams on clear days.  The trail system offers a variety of rides like Wildcat—a good warmup climb, gaining 1100’ in 4.5 miles before a quick singletrack descent spotted with rock gardens.

Or consider striking out for Beaver Pond, especially from the Horse Camp to Beaver Pond Bridge direction.

The system takes about half a day to explore.  And because Green Mountain is located on DNR land, a Discover Pass is required to park at Wildcat and Gold Creek trailheads (as always, keep valuables out of sight).

If you’re looking for a fun winter ride with medium length trails, views, and elevation gain—all close to the Seattle area—Green Mountain is the ride you’re looking for.   Or if you’d like to help maintain some trails outside your home turf, join Evergreen West Sound on one of their maintenance parties here.
