February Trail Highlight: Derailed

Flowing through the open green forest and chock-full of progressive features designed for all levels of riding, this month’s Trail Highlight is located on land owned by Pope Resources, a community-focused entity that works closely with Evergreen West Sound.  Learn more about riding “Derailed” in this month’s Trail Highlight!

After the original trail was accidentally destroyed in a forest thinning process, Derailed rose from the metaphorical ashes as a brand new flow trail designed and built by Greg Priest, with support from members of Evergreen West Sound.

Part of the 4,000 acre Port Gamble Trail system—which includes dozens of miles of legacy XC and a growing collection of modern, sustainably-built trails—Derailed also helps to plant the seed for future plans, which include a ride park and larger XC loop to accommodate the growing demand for great trails.

Derailed also denotes a larger campaign to save other area trails from future development. Forterra, Kitsap County, Outdoor Research, Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, Suquamish Tribe, North Kitsap Trails Association, Kitsap Forest & Bay Coalition, Great Peninsula Conservancy, Kitsap Audubon and more are all leading an effort to preserve large areas of the region for both recreation and wildlife.  Find out more at Evergreen West Sound’s Facebook page.

And if you’re out at Derailed, be sure to stop by Valholl Brewing, which will be coming out with a new beer called Derailed IPA this summer! A constant supporter and donor of thousands of dollars to the West Sound chapter, Valholl continues to show support in very unique ways. This is the second beer Valholl has made for Evergreen West Sound!

Check out more information on Derailed here, and post a ride support!
