Join us for Trail Miantenance 101 at Japanese Gulch in the City of Mukilteo! 

Class Curriculum

  • Basic stewardship (Classroom)

    • Stewardship, Conservation, Sustainability

  • Trail construction and soil types (Classroom)

    • Basic trail construction concepts to keep in mind when performing maintenance work.

  • Drainage maintenance (Classroom)

    • Drain types, best practices.

  • Brushing and clearing (Classroom)

    • Tools, best practices

  • Leaf blowing and raking (Classroom)

    • Tools, best practices

  • Basic tool and work safety (Field)

    • Tool types, appropriate usage and body mechanics

  • Trail Maintenance Work (Field)

    • A site is chosen that covers most of the concepts reviewed in the classroom portion

 

Location:

Classroom: Rose Hill Community Center at 304 Lincoln Ave. Mukilteo, WA 98275 (classroom number TBD)

Field: Japanese Gulch Conservation Area, Mukilteo WA 98275 (Trailhead TBD)

Schedule

  • 9am - sign in, introductions, plan for the day

  • 9:30am - Begin classroom slideshow presentation

  • 11:30am Lunch

  • 12:30pm - Meet at trailhead and talk about tools and safety

  • 1pm  - Hike to worksite and begin work

  • 3:30pm - Gather up tools and hike out

  • 4pm - End
