Saint Edward State Park - Bridge Repair on Volunteer Trail

The bridge on Volunteer was built by the Backcountry Bicycle Trails Club (the predecessor to EMBA) twenty-one years ago…and it needs some TLC.

Help us replace the tread boards and perform other maintenance on this wooden structure to keep it strong and safe for another twenty years.

State Parks has provided the lumber and fasteners, we just need to provide the labor and skill for this job.

Background:

St Edward State Park (along with neighboring Big Finn Hill county park) is a great, connected trail ecosystem that is some of the closest riding to the Seattle metro/East-side. If you haven't been here, come check in out...and if you live nearby, come lend a hand to make a great trail riding experience for everyone.

The Volunteer Trail is a fantastic mixed-use hiking and biking trail in the NE section of the Park—you don’t need to be a biker to enjoy this trail, or to help with this project!

Logistics:

What you should bring:

·        Cordless drill or other “burly” driver (Parks has the drive bits for the 6” screws that will be used to fasten the treads to the stringers)

·        14mm socket or drive—to remove old lag bolts (the old lags are metric but if you only have imperial a 9/16” socket will work as well, if you don’t have a metric 14mm)

Where to meet: St Edward St Park--Main Park Entrance (NE 145 St, East of Juanita Dr. NE--stay right into park, keep right as you see parking, continue to upper "Seminary" parking lot--upper right). Alternatively, you could park on NE 143rd St across Juanita Drive from the park and walk 2 blocks to the work site near the top of the trail and the intersection of Juanita Drive and the entrance road.

When:  2:00PM to whenever the project is complete, Saturday, August 25th

Remember, you don’t have to come for the entire time--Feel free to stop by for a little while, just come by and lend a hand.

If you come later than 2:00PM, head directly to the work-site a couple hundred yards downhill/NW from the Volunteer trail entrance located near the St Edward St Park at Juanita Dr NE and NE 145^th St)
