Chewelah - Gold Hill (Chewelah Valley Land Trust) - New Trail Work Party! 9AM
Help us develop two new of mountain biking trails on Gold Hill this fall! We'll be preparing a "flow trail" for excavator work that will start in mid October (when the conditions permit). There will be some brushing, logging and other prep work required before the excavator can start digging. This will be a super fun trail when completed!
Meanwhile, there is another trail on the west side of Gold Hill flagged and ready for some minor brushing, then hand tool work...much of this trail will only require "rake and ride" work. It has spectacular views and will significantly add access to the western portion of the community forest. This work can be done while the machine is working the flow trail. Our goal is to have two new trails completed before the snow shuts down work for the winter.
Background on Gold Hill Community Forest - Gold Hill is a 400 acre community forest recently acquired by the Chewelah Valley Land Trust (CVLT) located just north of Chewelah (the north side of the Golf & Country Club) in Stevens County. Trails are in the early stages of development, so there will be everything from brushing, digging, raking to develop new trails to brush trimming and vegetation management on existing ones.
CVLT & Evergreen will have some tools on-site to get this job done—but if you have a favorite trail-building tool (e.g. shovel, rake, Rogue hoe, McCleod, loppers, or similar), please bring those along. Gloves, sturdy shoes/boots and safety/sun glasses strongly recommended.
Background: Gold Hill (aka the Chewelah Community Forest) is an amazing 400 acre site with sweeping views of South Central Stevens County which recently acquired by the Chewelah Valley Land Trust (CVLT) who is working closely with the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance to develop a network of multi-user trails on this property.
