The Evergreen Education Program Wraps Up a Stellar 2015 Season

The Education program has wrapped up an exciting and successful season!

Nearly 800 statewide participants took some type of mountain bike skills class with Evergreen's Education program, and almost 400 of them were kids! We’re also excited to report that we were able to offer more women-only classes than ever before, which remain increasingly popular.

EvergreenDirtCampKids300pxSo what else was new in this summer of big changes? Well, we expanded our Dirt Camps to Swan Creek Park in Tacoma, saw Evergreen West Sound Chapter launch their own education program, and acquired 20 bikes for the Trail Access Program (which allowed us to serve 38 kids who didn’t have a bike to ride).

We’d also be remiss if we didn’t send out a huge thank you to our amazing instructors for making this season so successful. Other than our weeklong Dirt Camps at Duthie and Swan Creek, all of our instructors are volunteers trained through Evergreen MTB's certified Instructor Training Program. Together they donated over 1000 hours of their time to teach others.

And we certainly can’t overlook the support Dirt Camps get from our volunteer Youth Mentors (ages 14-16), who are also an integral asset to the education program. They donated another 900 hours of volunteer time to ensure the camps were successful!

As sad as we are to see the season end, we’re thankful for such a banner year with our passionate instructors and volunteers. With the commitment of members in the Education program to spreading their enjoyment to aspiring mountain bikers, we’re more excited than ever for the continued expansion into 2016 and beyond.
