‘Over and Out’ (previously 'Trail E') is a 2.6-mile, purpose-built intermediate descent trail, providing an alternative descent to the popular ‘Poppin Tops’ trail on the frontside of the mountain. ‘Wild Waves’ (previously Trail C) is a 2.5-mile purpose-built intermediate mountain bike trail with a flowy descent accessed via ‘Return Policy,’ ending at the ‘Way Back!’ two-way trail. These last two trails were built over two years, co-led by professional trail crews from Evergreen and DNR with support from the community. Trail construction was funded in large part by grant funding from the WA State Recreation & Conservation Office (RCO) and state capital funding.

“Raging River is a perfect example of what a committed riding community can create alongside land management partners who have a shared vision to make the northwest a premier destination for not just recreation, but also to help people connect with nature,” said Eddie Espinosa, Executive Director of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance. 

The Raging River trail network sits on land Washington DNR purchased in 2009, in partnership with King County and the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, protecting roughly 7,000 acres (since expanded to approximately 11,200 acres) of former commercial timberland along the I-90 corridor and safeguarding critical Chinook salmon habitat. DNR partnered directly with Evergreen to design and build the singletrack network from scratch, with trail construction beginning in 2015 and the first phase of trails opening to the public in May 2018.

“Recreation is one of the last affordable activities for families across Washington, and those opportunities are accessible thanks to the strong partnership of organizations like Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance,” said Commissioner of Public Lands Dave Upthegrove. “Raging River State Forest offers endless fun for mountain bikers on DNR-managed state trust lands – all available thanks to countless hours of organizing, planning, and labor from DNR staff and dedicated partner organizations and volunteers. DNR is grateful to work with Evergreen on the completion of Raging River mountain bike trail system, and looks forward to many more successful projects to come.”

The public is invited to join Evergreen, DNR, and the local community for the Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, October 10, from 12-5 p.m. at Raging River. This free event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, guided rides on the new trails, and activities with community partners.
