This Women's History Month, and every month, we’re celebrating the women who show up week after week to ride, lead, learn, and build community: Evergreen Crank Sisters. This welcoming space for women riders has grown into a powerful, volunteer-led program that’s shaping the future of mountain biking in our region, currently covering the Cascades to Sound and South Sound Chapters.

Tami Johnston

Evergreen Crank Sisters Marketing Director since August 2016

What do you love about Crank Sisters and the women's riding community?

I love connecting with REAL women. We all seem to be willing to get dirty, laugh together, cry together, learn from each other. It’s been a very unique experience, being involved in this group.

What keeps you coming back to these rides?

Every ride provides smiles and laughter, and absolute total psych about being on a bike, and on the trails!

What would you tell someone thinking about joining their first Crank Sisters ride?

Don’t be afraid to join in, and don’t be afraid to be honest about your skill level. No judging, and no leaving anyone behind!

What do you love about Crank Sisters and the women’s riding community?

I love that moment when I show up at the trailhead and see other like-minded ladies ready to ride some rad trails. That feeling is the best — I immediately feel accepted, welcomed, and excited for the adventure ahead. There’s something really special about starting a ride surrounded by supportive, stoked women.

What keeps you coming back to these rides?

The shared obsession with mountain biking keeps me coming back. Riding with women who are just as passionate about the trails creates an incredible energy and camaraderie that’s hard to find anywhere else.

What would you tell someone thinking about joining their first Crank Sisters ride?

I would say that joining a Crank Sisters ride is a fantastic way to share your passion for trail riding with like-minded women. It’s welcoming, encouraging, and such a fun way to grow your skills and confidence on the bike.
