We are excited to officially launch Evergreen’s tenth Chapter:

The South Sound Chapter, expanding our local presence and trail stewardship efforts in Pierce and Thurston counties.

For many years, trail projects and stewardship efforts throughout the South Sound have operated within Evergreen’s Cascades to Sound Chapter. During that time, the region has experienced significant growth in trail development, partnerships, and volunteer leadership. In response, Evergreen’s Board of Directors unanimously approved the formation of a dedicated South Sound Chapter at the October 2025 Board meeting – creating space for even more focused support, local leadership, and long-term planning.

The South Sound Chapter will support projects at Tehaleh, Swan Creek, SR-410 corridor, Wards Lake, Dash Point, Eatonville, Olympia Design, and Ashford areas. As partnerships and capacity continue to grow, work will continue to expand across the region with additional trail projects.

Creating a Chapter focused specifically on Pierce and Thurston counties strengthens advocacy, sustainable access, and long-term trail planning across a diverse range of riding areas. At the same time, this transition allows the Cascades to Sound Chapter to focus more fully on the extensive trail networks along the I-90 corridor.

This effort has been led by many committed volunteers and partners, who have been instrumental in building the foundation for the South Sound Chapter. For the past four years, Evergreen's Pierce County Committee of 10-12 local stewards has been meeting regularly and actively working in the region, playing a key role in advancing trail projects and developing new opportunities.

The South Sound Chapter operates with the full support of Evergreen’s statewide staff, resources, and volunteer network, while focusing on the unique needs of the South Sound riding community. New and renewing Evergreen Members can now select South Sound as their Chapter affiliation.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this Chapter to life. This is an exciting step forward for Evergreen, and for riders throughout the South Sound.

NOTE: All classes, camps, and work parties located in the South Sound region that were previously listed under Cascades to Sound Chapter will now be listed under the South Sound Chapter.

For example: If you usually find your Swan Creek work parties under Cascades to Sound Chapter, now, you will find Swan Creek work parties under South Sound Chapter
