Building a new green trail: 'Goldilocks' at Loup Loup in our Methow Chapter
At Loup Loup, we've built 16 miles of singletrack so far, with a planned 35 miles total. The newest addition will be Goldilocks, a green bidirectional flow trail currently under construction, led by our pro builders with a lot of help from volunteers (thank you for making this possible!).
At almost four miles in length, Goldilocks will be the longest trail in the new Loup network and connect the base area with Bear Pass. It will open up all sorts of new ways to loop the Loup: It provides an easy green (and fast) descent off Bear Mountain; you can climb it to create a big Bear Mountain loop that links up with Telemark and Oh, Bother (or the downhill of your choice); or connect it with Gabion II on your way back from Fozzie and the Bear backside.
Our trail crew is making a big push over the next month to ensure Goldilocks is all wrapped up before the snow returns to consolidate the dirt. The top mile is finished and the full trail corridor is cut-out, but volunteers are essential if we’re to get the rest of the dirt work done. There are five dig days on Goldilocks scheduled for the coming weeks. Our crew needs help moving logs out of the corridor, armoring sections with rock, and buffing out the tread. The more help we can get, the more our pros can stay in the excavator, and the volunteer hours also provide a critical grant match.
