Congratulations to James Munly, recipient of the 2025 Bob Parlette Award for outstanding service
2025 Bob Parlette Award Honors James Munly for Outstanding Service
James Munly is a Trail Crew Lead in our Central Washington Chapter. He's been the guy organizing rides and building trails for years, but he's also the go-between for riders and the Forest Service. Munly talks fast, but he moves slow, which is probably why he hasn't tired in the fight to build legal trails. He's been to years of meetings, organized volunteer groups and found a way to explain to the doubters, why mountain-bike trails are good!
What is the Bob Parlette Award?
Created by TREAD in Central Washington, the Bob Parlette Award honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to public service and outdoor recreation in North Central Washington. Bob Parlette (1941-2017) was a tenacious visionary whose commitment to public service and outdoor recreation left an indelible mark on North Central Washington. The Bob Parlette Award is an annual recognition given to individuals who demonstrate similar dedication to public service and outdoor experiences in our region.
2025 Munly Nomination from Mic McLane of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance:
"James has been a steady advocate for outdoor recreation in the Wenatchee Valley for decades, always working to build trust with land managers and secure lasting access for mountain bikers. As a founding member of the first Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance chapter, the Central chapter - he helped establish the foundation for organized mountain bike advocacy in our region. From his work with the Forest Service at Ski Hill, featured in Pedal Driven, to mentoring volunteers and shaping sustainable trail systems, James has consistently shown up and made a lasting impact on our community."
2025 Munly Nomination from Maggie Richter of Our Valley, Our Future:
"When I read about the legacy of Bob Parlette and his lifelong commitment to public service and outdoor recreation, James Munly was the first person who came to mind. Although I’ve only lived in Leavenworth for five years, James has already made a lasting impression on me and my family. He’s been a friendly and encouraging presence — from cheering on my three-year-old learning to ski on the magic carpet, to sharing in the fun at Ski Hill’s music nights, to helping organize trail work parties and clean-ups. I know his impact reaches far beyond what I’ve personally witnessed. James brings a long history of investment in trails, young people, and outdoor stewardship. I’m thrilled to see him honored for his dedication and hard work — much of it carried out quietly, behind the scenes."
James has served at the Leavenworth Ski Hill for over 10 years and brought notable improvements to the mountain bike trails, ski operations, and more that serve our community's access to outdoor recreation.
