Swan Creek (Phase 1 & 2)

Location: Tacoma, WA
Chapter: Cascades to Sound
New Mileage: 4 miles
Status: Complete
Completion Date: 01/01/2017

Swan Creek Park is a 373 acre site located just a few miles southeast of downtown Tacoma. 276 acres are owned by Metro Parks Tacoma (MPT) and 97 acres are owned by Pierce County. Evergreen and MPT developed a plan for trails and skill building options in the 50-acre “Douglas Fir Forest” zone of the park. The Grand opening for Phase 1 ocurred in March of 2014.

Phase 1

  1. 1.5+ mi cross country loop that circumnavigates the ~50 acre Douglas Fir Forest. Style: Smooth and flowy, max sustained climbs and descents, optional features. Skill level: Green (entry) level and kid-friendly but fun to rip for all ages and skill levels.
  2. More advanced optional trails to extend the cross country loop to ~2 mi and provide progression opportunities.
  3. Technical skill building zones including freeride skills progression lines with skinnies, drops and jumps for riders of all skill levels. Some skill building lines will be designed to enable connecting them into the perimeter loop to further extend it for an organized event, race or for a longer more challenging ride.
  4. Open space will be maximized for future Phase 2 expansion.

Phase 2

With the popularity of Phase 1 and its huge impact on displacing negative activity, Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance and Metro Parks Tacoma began work on Phase 2 construction in late 2015.

The project was completed in 2017 including a pump track and two miles of new trail!
