Great Trail

Rode Hansen Ridge solo today. Pretty exposed but nice cool breeze kept it comfortable. Rode out clockwise onto lollipop and then into phase 2 until a bear told me to go back (near beginning of the double track, where single track goes back into forest, near carter creek; I told the bear to go back as well  and we both obliged). Put your bear bell on when riding solo or quietly!

The parking lot / shooting pit is a bit of a turn-off, littered with shell casings and broken glass (some casings up the trail as well, and though shooting has been prohibited, some casings didn't seem too old). But the trail is awesome, with terrific views and entertaining riding (At least on the single-track portions) but not overly technical (does have quite a fewe baseball-sized rocks so you have to keep a little speed but it's manageable for most I'd guess). Overall I think the crews have don a fantastic job on this trail. Views were superb, both towards Rainier and towards the north.

btw: the portion I rode got me only ~1400' elevation gain according to GPS & altimeter. Seems to me that the quoted 4200' elevation gain in the navigation section may be a stretch (maybe accurate if you ride from tinkham rd).
