This past week “The Hulk,” our famous green Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance Subaru from Carter Subaru, received a new addition to the already-eye catching MTB advocacy machine. Snug in our hitch sits a brand new, bright green five-bike Recon Rack.

We’re stoked to accept this generous gift with its bullet-proof-yet-simple design built to withstand the toughest shuttle laps with a full set of bikes. And we look forward to putting it to the test.

Cody Fuks first started designing and creating these racks in his Northwest garage a few years ago. Quickly they became popular enough for Cody to quit his day-job, which he did in January of this year. He now commits his professional time to fabricating one of the best designed bike racks on the market in Blaine, WA.

With over a decade of welding experience, Fuks created a simple, design with wheel baskets based off of metro bus bike racks. Front tires go in the vertical wheel baskets, rear wheels are strapped down—then it’s time to ride. This design allows the rack to only come in contact with the tires, so no more bike rub! Also, Recon Racks are now installed with the new Gen 2 pivot system which allows you to easily drop the rack back for opening back doors and tailgates.

Fuks’ strong vision expands into a plethora of accessories that can be added to the rack—including bottle openers, tool racks and even an integrated receiver hitch so you can tow a trailer. And the best part (as far as the lime-green lovers in the Evergreen office are concerned), you can get a rack in any color you want! If you’re looking for a locally-made bike rack, hand crafted for keeping your bike safe and secure on the roughest dirt roads in the PNW check out Cody’s one-man show at Recon Racks!

Thanks again to Cody for the fantastic rack—we hope it gets tons of mileage over the years.
