We’re an organization supported by a great community of volunteers—and that’s something we get to see every day.  In every corner of the state there are volunteers working with land managers on trails you may not even know about, donating their time and making a difference for the rest of us: we want to take a moment to recognize one—Matt Rose.

When we polled the Evergreen trail crew on who’s been standing out lately, there were may names—but the one that caught our ear belonged to the guy who brings his own excavator to work with. Someone who’s out there, building trail, and making a great place for the whole community—that’s someone who needed to be written about.

And a week later he was—just not by us. It turns out that Matt has not only impressed MTBers, but the folks at WenatcheeOutdoors.org as well. So take a moment and read their article on Matt and his vision for Squilchuck.

Thanks to Matt for all the hard work!

MattRoseTrailsHere's a quick list of just some of Matt's accomplishments:

  • Built Stairway to Heaven Trail
  • Helped/led effort at Leavenworth Ski Hill for a period
  • When snowed out of trail building in Wenatchee, he trailered his equipment over to Tiger and built trail for Evergreen there (on Silent Swamp) and then loaned it to us for the winter.
  • Continued to make several trips that winter to help build Silent Swamp.
  • Now using his own excavator to build a network of trails at Squilchuck.
