Escaped the lowland heat for the big trees and big views the 410 area provides. The trails are in great shape, with Ranger even having a slight carpet of evergreen needles on it in places. We climbed Ranger in the morning humidity and parts of the trail are definitely showing signs of wear and tear from all users (hikers, riders, etc); the switchbacks are in surprisingly decent shape. What was intended as a quick jaunt out to the viewpoint on Palisades for a first time rider with us, just whetted the appetite for the whole group to keep riding Palisades as the dirt conditions were excellent. We continued down Palisades, playing leapfrog with another group of 5-6 riders who were also enjoying the goods. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that Palisades is in great shape compared to last year, with obviously some work done to repair some sketchy lows from last season. Smiles all around and two tired trail dogs to boot.
