Youth Classes

Want to get your kid in a really fun and active outdoor sport? Our youth classes are an excellent way to introduce youth to mountain biking as well as help your kid progress quicker and safely. Our youth instructors are trained specifically in working with youth and are focused on being safe and having fun while teaching kids. Ages for youth classes are 8 – 13.

Beginner-Intermediate Youth Skills Camp - Ages 8-12

Climbing and Mountain Bike Kids Camp - Ages 6-12

Description:

What could be better than biking in the morning and climbing in the afternoon?  Nothing!  Kids ages 6-12 are invited to join us for 5-full days of awesomeness riding their bike and climbing in a safe and supportive environment.  

Morning session:  From 9am to noon each day participants will be learning mountain bike skills such as body position and balance, braking, climbing and descending techniques, gearing and shifting, front and rear wheel lifts, cornering, roll downs and other trail skills to help with success on single track trail riding.

No experience necessary.  However, each child is required to have a working bike and helmet.

Lunch and shuttle:  Noon to 1pm participants will eat their lunch and be transported from Squilchuck State Park to Riverfront Climbing Gym by Wenatchee Shuttle Service.

Afternoon session:  From 1 to 4 p.m. participants will learn the basics of climbing in the gym. They will learn about climbing equipment, proper knots, how to belay, climbing movement, and how to stay safe in the gym. They will also learn climbing games to build friendships and teach teamwork. All rental gear is included with the camp.

You will drop your child off each day at 9am at Squilchuck and picked your child up at 4pm at Riverfront Rock Gym.  

Please pack your child lunch, water bottle and sunscreen.  Snacks and extra water will be provided.

Progression Sessions - Jr

Description:

A ride series for younger riders who have some experience but want to improve their skills to become stronger, more confident trail riders. Each class (4 in total) focuses on 2-3 skills - in depth - while out on the trails. Riders will receive feedback and guidance from our experienced instructors in a relaxed and fun setting while getting more trail time and making new friends. Ages 8-13

This class will focus on:

  • Review balance, body position, braking, descending
  • Climbing, slow speed cornering, shifting
  • Trail skills including roll downs and berms
  • High-speed cornering
  • Obstacle clearing

Classes are held at Duthie Hill Park, Black Diamond Open Space, Swan Creek, and Big Finn Hill

Evergreen’s MTB Foundations Level 2 class builds on the skills participants learn in the Level 1 class. It also provides riders with some experience out on the trails or those who could use review of proper techniques and mountain bike handling an excellent opportunity to take their riding ability to the next level. Learn to navigate tight turns, corner with confidence, and learn wheel lifts that will help you conquer obstacles like roots, logs and just about anything else that you may come across along the trails. MTB Foundations - Teen - Eastern Washington

In the MTB Foundations - Teen, we teach you everything you need to have fun and be a confident trail rider in a friendly youth environment. New and experienced riders can all benefit from a focus on learning fundamental mountain bike handling and techniques. We focus on proper balance and body position and add a host of vital skills including braking, climbing, descending, and tight turns. We will then practice these skills on the trail. Ages 13-15

MTB Foundations - Jr - Eastern Washington

Description:

Evergreen’s MTB Techniques for Kids provides youth the chance to join the fun on mountain bikes! Kids will learn the basics of safely riding their mountain bikes, while learning the technical skills to help them progress out on the trails. Learn how to climb and safely go down hills while rolling over small logs and roots, and riding through twisty trails. This class will help kids with balance while learning the basic rules of mountain biking to keep them safe.

Age: 8-12 ...  your child must have had their 8th birthday.

Limit 10 kids

Your child must have a “real” mountain bike. Box store mountain bikes are not acceptable for safety reasons.
