Evergreen SW Dirt Skirts Ride

07/27/2018,  7:00 pm - 11:30 pm

Ladies, come join the Dirt Skirts on a Full Moon Night Ride on Ape Canyon Trail!

We will pedal up the trail while it's still plenty light out with the goal of watching the moon rise over Mt Adams at the top of Ape Canyon.  We will continue on into the Plains of Abraham and turn around at either the waterfall or at the signed intersection with Loowit trail.  The descent will be in the dark so it's absolutely necessary that you have Ride Lights for mountain biking (no flashlights or dim commuter lights!)

This is an Intermediate ride as far as technical skills go but the Grunt factor will definitely come into play.  It is pretty much all uphill at elevation.

Meet at Ape Canyon TH.  If that small lot is full, you can continue to the end of the road to the Lava Canyon TH and park there (pit toilets at lower TH)   https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ape+Canyon+Trailhead/@46.1652967,-122.0946386,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x54969ae483c30a07:0x54cac2bc775c99e7!8m2!3d46.1652967!4d-122.0924447?hl=en&authuser=0

Be at the TH no later than 7:00pm ready to ride and to sign the waiver.  Be sure to allow a little extra time to attach your lights and pedal up from the lower lot to the TH.

I will be pedaling away at 7:20pm sharp.  If you hit traffic or are running late, please be aware there is no cell signal at the TH.

We will be doing an Out n Back of either 12 or 13 miles and I expect to be on trail 4 hours.  We will be stopping to watch the moon rise at the canyon and stopping to take pictures and stopping at the waterfall and stopping to take more pictures.  This is a social ride not a strava ride.  :)

The terrain is dirt with some roots and loose rock the first 4 miles and then loose pumice the next 1-2 miles.  It can be buggy too.

Bring:  a mountain bike with knobby tires in good working condition, helmet, knee pads, water, trail snacks, spare tube, tire levers, pump, layers, bug spray, a NW Forest Pass and Ride Lights for mountain biking (please verify they work before you get to the TH)

We will cancel if air quality is bad due to forest fires and will make said decision by 10am the morning of the ride.

Note:  Although this is a Ladies Group Ride, there is also a posted co-ed ride so we will most likely be riding as a larger co-ed group which will offer different pace options.  Win-Win!
