YOUR Comments are needed on the DNR Draft Trail Policy by Monday 9/28!

Evergreen is pleased to see the current version of the required Trails Policy that Washington DNR and the broad coalition of stakeholders (including Evergreen and Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition) have developed--and which is currently out for comment (and we need yours!).

The policy adopts USFS trail standards for construction and maintenance but directs the creation of new standards where appropriate - and we believe that mountain biking is one of the cases where current standards are insufficient for a good user experience.

We’d like to see those revised standards developed quickly—and we also want to see them balancing the cost of maintenance with development, and strongly encourage that dollars are used more efficiently than has sometimes occurred in the past.

We also believe that the policy should more clearly require transparency by the agency when making decisions that affect recreation.  Evergreen recognizes that we may not always agree with decisions that the agency makes, but we know that a clear and unambiguous explanation of the reasons behind a decision is always the best practice.

DNR needs to hear YOUR input; please take some time to comment on the draft policy here before Sept. 28th—your input will help shape how trails on DNR land are built and managed for years to come
