This one is for the early birds who go to work early and get off in the mid-afternoon and want to ride before dinner. Recent Bootcamp graduates and beginners are encouraged to come out for this social paced ride. Ride time will be approx 1 1/2 hours so we can get home in time for dinner.
Having fun is the main goal of this ride and the twisty trails at Lake Sawyer ensure that we will be successful! The trails here are relatively flat, allowing us to concentrate on increasing our skills at clearing small to medium obstacles and becoming more fluid riders.
Come out and see for yourself why Lake Sawyer is currently ranked #1 as BBTC’s Top Trail. http://www.bbtc.org/ridestats/show_stats.php
Let's talk about riding in the rain!
Because of the good forest cover and good drainage Lake Sawyer stays "relatively" dry even in medium rain so don't worry about being rained out. Sure it will be a little swampy in parts and the roots get slicky but that is all part of the fun - so try riding in the rain - just once! More often than not makes for some good things to laugh at it if you watch me slipping and slidding around.
Meet at the Black Diamond Bike Shop on Maple Valley Highway - in the back parking lot. Look for the guy in the white Toyota Tacoma pick-up with a canopy - that's me - Bill Brace.

You know the drill: meet at the Soaring Eagle parking lot (please check website for driving directions) and be ready to go for a spin by 6pm. Social pace ride, no one left behind.
Lights required with 2 hr burn time.
Weather disclaimer: Light rain/sprinkle means the ride is on, heavy rain means I'll stay home and watch telenovelas.
Feel free to email questions. |

Lights are required for this ride and since we have entered the "rainy season" a hard steady rain will cancel by 4:00 day of ride. Due to popular demand, the SGB is going to remain at Sawyer for the dark rainy season and it'll be at 6:00 PM. The ride still may occasionally fluctuate as far as day of the week and be scheduled for an occasional Tuesday or Wednesday, but most of the rides will be on Thursday. The weekly Gut Buster is well into it's second year and has developed a nice base of regular riders allowing for an average of 5-7 riders every week including regulars and visiting guests and we continue to welcome all levels of riding experience...My co-leaders are Dennis Little and Derek Carlson and we have each committed to this ride on a weekly basis. One of us, if not all three of us, will show up to lead this ride each week. We generally try to ride for 1.5 - 2 hours and do as many miles as the group feels comfortable with on the given night. We'll meet at the bike shop in Black Diamond - right off of highway 169 just south of the coal car. Feel free to E-mail me with questions and I hope to see some of you on SGB evenings!!

So, what's the Stinky Spoke??!! It's the short name for the Stinky Weather Poker Run. It's a 16 mile mountain bike loop where you gather five playing cards in hopes of having a good enough hand at the end to win a prize. We've picked the worst day of the year for weather (combination of the rainiest and the coldest), so we can never really be let down. It came true in 2008, with a wonderful 39 degree drizzle.
And where does the money go?
All proceeds to to the Little Bit Riding Center, those great people right there on our biking loop that you see taking so many people with disabilities out riding on their horses. Check them out at this link:

When: We'll start at 8:30am and wrap up around 3pm.
We'll meet and work in the upper parking lot and possibly on the NW Timber Trail. I built a culvert crossing there this spring and now that the bridges are finished being installed by DNR, we can finish the tread approaches to the crossing. We also might rebuild some rough spots caused by the bridge construction on the Timber trail and finally, depending on the final work party attendee numbers, we will install new signage.
I'll have coffee and donuts in the morning but make sure and bring lunch, water, layered clothing, solid work boots (no tennis shoes) and gloves if you have them.
Check the calendar the night before to make sure there are no schedule changes. Zap me an email if you have any questions. See you there!
